"door county wisconsin"

It was a perfect snowy morning in Door County, just two days after Christmas. We had driven our sleigh from Northern WI back to Wausau and then all the way to Egg Harbor to visit with as many family faces as possible, and we couldn't wait to just slow down for a few days in our favorite County!! Thankfully, Mother Nature brought us the most beautiful fresh snow and a couple of balmy 20-degree days to play outside with our little Parker puppy. We quickly slid into a vacation-like routine of coffee accompanied by a game of rummy, followed by a snowshoe adventure and a trip up North to one of our favorite coffee shops – Leroy's. The Hasselblad even made an appearance for one of our morning and evening snowshoes with Mike (Butch's Dad), Stevi (Butch's sister) & her boyfriend Charles, and we wanted to share our silly little Wintery Door County adventure with you!

Hope you're enjoying beautiful Wisconsin's winter as much as we are!!

Love, Kelsy & Butch

DOOR COUNTY WEEKEND!! by Kelsy & Butch McCartney

We absolutely love Door County weekends! Whether it's time visiting Butch's family or spending a weekend away with friends, the memories we create in the County are some of our favorites. There's a sense of freedom that comes with exploring this charming & breathtaking part of our beautiful home state!! Even though it's just two hours from our humble abode, we always feel like we're on vacation while visiting Door County. Maybe it's because we have next to zero cell service while we're there, or because it's where Butch grew up and "there's no place like home", or just maybe it's because the GIANT smile we see creep across Parker's face as he runs countless laps and lives the life of a "wilder-pup" is the best thing ever? :) Whatever the reason, we always feel the need to capture our time spent exploring! If you've never been to Door County, GO. And shoot us a message before you do!! We'll tell you all of our favorite places, maybe we'll even clue you in on the super private, tucked-away trail we hiked on with our dear friends Anna & Paul on this fall's Door County weekend ;)

AN AFTERNOON IN DOOR COUNTY by Kelsy & Butch McCartney

After photographing a gorgeous wedding in Milwaukee, we headed back to Door County to stay with Butch's parents who had been watching our little Parker puppy while we took pictures! Originally, we had planned to head home on Sunday. After just a smidge of convincing, we decided to make it a long weekend and enjoy the most beautiful Sunday imaginable exploring the County!! It's no secret that wedding photographers work Saturdays, so we typically find other days throughout the week to celebrate (ahem, Tuesdays). It really didn't take much convincing at all to stay and make the most of a perfectly sunny 75 degree Sunday in Door County!

Hours of Jeeping through Cave Point, a fun (and ADORABLE) visit from family friends, delicious picnic on the deck, MASSIVE bon fire & s'mores rounded out our day of vacation :) The little cuties you see above are Olive & Stella! Miss Olive was a good little gardener, and smiley Stella couldn't get her giggles out fast enough the moment she saw Parker, Cozzy or Ruby (her favorite pups!). These two had us grinning from ear-to-ear with their cuteness all afternoon, and we headed home with happy hearts & one pooped puppy after a family-filled day of relaxation & exploring.

We are of course thankful for all of the moments with family and friends, but when we look back on this day we will always be even more grateful that we stayed because it was the last we were able to spend with Parker's Uncle Cozzy (Butch's parents Aussie). We didn't know it at the time, but this particular Sunday was the last day that Cozzy felt like himself, played frisbee with the biggest smile on his face, and ran around with Parker & Ruby. We'll always miss Cozzy's butt wiggles and the way he so patiently & lovingly played with and watched over Parker from the day he met him. It seems like good dogs should just live forever, and Cozzy is one of the best. We know that he is up in puppy heaven cheering on Parker with every frisbee he catches, and couldn't be more grateful for these images and memories!!!

DOOR COUNTY ON FILM by Kelsy & Butch McCartney

Butch grew up in Door County and we always love our trips back to visit, whether it is to photograph some of our awesome clients or to enjoy a bottle of amazing wine & cookout on the Green Egg with Butch's parents! No matter the occasion that brings us back, it is usually a mix of work and play which we LOVE! Just last month we had a weekend off - slightly crazy for October, but we were determined to make the most of it and enjoy every second! :) After chatting with Anna, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to plan a weekend in Door County. Originally the two of us & our cute lumberjack husbands planned to do a bit of fall camping, but the weather forecast kindly suggested we would have a more comfortable weekend if we were to stay at Butch's parents' house ;) And so we did! The result was a weekend of non-stop playtime with coffee dates, grilling salmon & steaks, hiking along the beach of Newport State Park on a perfect fall day, being spoiled with massive breakfasts, and enjoying one final bonfire of the season complete with s'mores. We had the best time and really couldn't be more grateful for a sweet clients who turn into two of your favorite friends!

Cheers & happy weekend to you! Here's a look back at one of our favorites :)
